Spend enough time around internet forums and video games and you’ll encounter the same tired pseudo-intellectuals that pretend to philosophize about arts and entertainment. There is always a trend, no matter the fandom, to take your hobby a little more seriously then it probably deserves. There isn’t usually anything wrong with that, so long as you don’t go overboard and start calling it something it isn’t or investing unhealthy amounts of time into it. Hobbies are, after all, hobbies. Continue reading “Are Video Games Art?”
Now I’m going to talk about a video game.
I just completed a run-through of some the old Assassin’ Creed 2 and AC: Brotherhood games that first came out back in 2009. It’s hard to believe that was nearly a decade ago, considering how the gameplay itself seems only to have aged a few years. Granted, I played the remastered collection that was released in 2012, so maybe that has something to do with it.

You have free speech. But don’t use any racial slurs. But some slurs are okay. But not the N-word. But blacks are allowed to use it to refer to themselves or each other. But whites using the word cracker sounds idiotic, rather than cultured or ‘urban’, whatever that means. Also, make sure to loudly and angrily decry those who use derogatory language when referring to blacks and Jews, and periodically Asians, Native Americans, Indians, and Arabs, but don’t worry about Eskimos, Slavs, Mediterraneans, Nordics, or Anglos. If you aren’t signaling that you find certain euphemisms offensive enough, the SJW defenestration guard may not be able to tell the difference when they start trying to get racists like you fired. I recently got a PS4 and bundled with it came this terrible next installment of the Call of Duty franchise. If I could have gotten the system with a few bucks knocked off and without this retarded game, I’d have done so.
I love shooters. I don’t play them often. In fact, I don’t particularly play video games much and I confess I have no particular love for the concept. That said, however, pulverizing fake people on screen and reducing them to screaming, bloody chunks is admittedly a soft spot I’ve kept over the years. Busting heads open and running people over is a great stress reliever, especially when you’re about halfway through a bottle of bourbon and it’s three in the morning. The Forza franchise has traditionally been associated with the celebration of motorsports and the passion for automobiles. By consistently delivering a complete package featuring a large variety of enticing cars from different eras faithfully represented on screen through impressive visuals, immersive environments, a fine selection of locations at which to race, gripping gameplay, as well as its own signature style of physics and controls, Turn 10 Studio’s Forza Motorsport has established itself not only as a racing game, but also as a franchise which naturally appeals to every car enthusiast, both casual and hardcore. Building off the series’ success, Forza Motorsport 6 ambitiously seeks to take its familiar formula to even higher levels and bring us the greatest Forza experience yet. Despite some nagging flaws, Turn 10’s second effort on the Xbox One can definitely be considered a success. Continue reading “Forza Motorsport 6”
